The location K'Town
One of Germany's most successful information and communications technologies clusters has evolved in Kaiserslautern
Just a few years ago, nobody would have expected this. In addition to an extensive military infrastructure, Kaiserslautern was mostly known for sewing machines and as one of the sites of the car manufacturer Opel. Since the 1990s, however, one term has largely characterized the development of Kaiserslautern: conversion. The first project was the PRE-Park, operated by the Pfälzische Regionalentwicklung GmbH and known Germany-wide: So far, 75 companies and almost 2500 jobs have found an attractive site in Kaiserslautern. The success story continues: On 70,000 square meters of the former freight train station, the PRE-Uni-Park was created as a follow-up project, bundling even more IT competence. This high-tech campus in the immediate vicinity of the University is especially dedicated to applied research: In addition to institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and, soon, the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, other IT research areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) are also represented.
According to surveys, Kaiserslautern has thus evolved into a recognized address for national and international organizations. With about 800 researchers in the IT area alone, Kaiserslautern holds a prominent position in Europe.
Naturally, the education of the next generation of scientists is also taken care of on site: Together, the Technical University and the University of Applied Sciences with its sites in Kaiserslautern and Zweibrücken offer technical and scientific courses of study to more than 12,000 students.
Kaiserslautern ideally combines many advantages regarding living and working conditions. Affordable housing, diverse cultural offers and recreational activities as well as large urban conglomerates in close vicinity show: The structurally weak western Palatinate region is a thing of the past!
There are good reasons why Kaiserslautern is called the "Silicon Valley“ of the Palatinate. An international high-tech center in the middle of one of Germany's largest natural recreation areas. Who can offer more?
